Remedial/Deep Tissue/Sports Massage
Tight neck and shoulders? Feeling stressed? Remedial massage therapy can be used to treat specific health problems or provide relaxation to sore muscles. It helps to relieve headaches, back, neck and joint pain as well as anxiety and stress. Remedial Massage increases circulation, eases muscular aches and pains and cleanses the body of toxins and waste.
Deep tissue and trigger point massage techniques such as neuromuscular technique (NMT) are used and focus on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. They release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through deep pressure on the contracted areas (trigger points or knots). Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.
Conditions treated include repetitive strain injuries, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, whiplash, tendonitis, piriformis syndrome (sciatica), general aches, muscle spasm, chronic back pain and sports injuries.
Sports massage incorporates mainly deep tissue and friction techniques. It enhances physical performance, speeds up recovery time and treats specific injuries.
Ideally a maintenance massage should be performed on a regular monthly basis to promote mobility and improved function and to stop conditions becoming problematic and painful.
On your first visit, you are asked to complete a Client Information Form. Your medical history is noted and your existing problem areas are discussed to help determine your treatment. Then through observation, muscle testing and your feedback, I can determine the specific muscles affected. A treatment plan will then be formulated and discussed with you. Before your massage you'll be asked to undress down to your underwear and ladies are also given a body wrap gown to wear. You will then be covered in a towel to keep you comfortable, only exposing the parts of your body being worked on at the time.
During your massage I play soothing background music to help your mind relax and unwind. I only use Melrose H2Oil® massage oil as it is a water dispersible oil. This product allows the skin to breath, has no record of dermatological problems and rinses off more easily.
I allocate 10 minutes extra to each massage appointment to allow time for initial client consultation, changing and payment. Please arrive at your appointment time (not earlier).
